Increasing our capacity to cope with stressors, making positive dietary and exercise choices, practicing effective sleep habits, increasing our sense of positive self-regard, and improving our relationships with others are wellness essentials. FamilyFirst offers a wide range of wellness services to address your/your family’s wellness needs and goals.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Classes

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Groups

MBSR is an educational approach that uses training in mindfulness meditation as the core of a program to teach participants how to better care for themselves and live healthier lives. Research has indicated that participation in an 8-week MBSR program appears to make measurable changes in the parts of the brain associated with memory, sense of self, empathy, and stress. Research has also indicated that mindfulness meditation can help relieve symptoms of pain, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Our fall session MBSR class will begin Thursday, September 16, 2021. It will run on Thursdays from 7-9 PM.

Mindfulness Meditation and Gentle Yoga Classes

Mindfulness Meditation and Gentle, Relaxing Yoga Classes

These one-hour classes include 15-20 minutes of Mindfulness Meditation and 40-45 minutes of Gentle Yoga postures designed to help relieve symptoms of stress, anxiety, and insomnia.

Currently, classes are offered via a secure Zoom platform on Thursday evenings from 8 to 9 PM and Saturday mornings from 10 to 11 AM.  Registration is required by 6 PM on the evening before class.

Individual and Family Wellness Consultations

Individual and Family Wellness Consultations

An initial 90-minute consultation helps individuals and/or families identify wellness needs and goals and develop an individualized or family wellness plan. Follow up 60-minute consultations are also offered. These consultations aim to encourage behavior change using a holistic approach. Wellness consultations are not a substitute for psychotherapy, but can augment psychotherapy or provide support if psychotherapy is not needed.

Mindfulness Class Series

Mindfulness Class Series

Benefits have been found to bringing Mindfulness to our roles as parents and grandparents and to the way we approach eating.  Single classes and class series on Mindful Parenting and Grandparenting and on Mindful Eating are offered on a rotating basis.

Our newest class series, Mindful Parenting: A Two-Part Interactive, Experiential Series, is starting again soon!  Classes will meet on Mondays, June 21 and 28, 2021 from 8 PM to 9 PM via a secure Zoom platform.  This two-part experiential, informative, and interactive series will explore Mindfulness Practices and Parenting Techniques to encourage responsive instead of reactive parenting. The series will also address ways to increase capacities to cope with additional stressors facing parents during the pandemic. This June class series will focus on strategies to help children cope with their anxiety.

Due to popular demand, a Monthly Ongoing Class for Alums of the Two-Part Mindful Parenting Class Series is now being offered.  Alums will meet monthly to discuss and reinforce the tenets learned in the Mindful Parenting two-part class series. Mindfulness Practices and Parenting Techniques to encourage responsive instead of reactive parenting will be reviewed and obstacles to their implementation will be explored.
