Wellness Classes

At FamilyFirst, we understand that our mental health is closely tied to our physical health and well-being (and vice versa). Increasing our capacity to cope with stressors, making positive dietary and exercise choices, practicing effective sleep habits, increasing our sense of positive self-regard, and improving our relationships with others are wellness essentials. FamilyFirst offers a wide range of wellness services, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) classes and mindful meditation and yoga classes, to address your/your family’s wellness needs and goals.

Wellness services have strong potential for helping you (and your family) feel better:  A research study (click here) recently confirmed that mindfulness works as well as medication for anxiety!

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Classes

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Groups

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an educational approach that uses training in mindfulness meditation as the core of a program to teach participants how to better care for themselves and live healthier lives. Research has indicated that participation in an 8-week MBSR program appears to make measurable changes in the parts of the brain associated with memory, sense of self, empathy, and stress. Research has also indicated that mindfulness meditation can help relieve symptoms of pain, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

We are currently accepting registration for our next 8-week MBSR course which will begin on Thursday, February 23, 2023

We are currently accepting registration for the next round of our 8-week MBSR course to be held on weekday evenings. Classes run on a rotating basis. The exact start date for our next MBSR class will be determined soon.

Wellness consultations are not a substitute for psychotherapy, but can augment psychotherapy or provide support if psychotherapy is not needed.
